I love Jeff Tweedy. Here is a video of him doing a dramatic reading of Beyonce, how wonderful.

Sorry I’ve been MIA from the blogosphere, life has been dominated by the job hunt and the world cup… both exhilarating and frustrating in their own right. In honor of my soccer obsession and the never ending conspiracy theories surrounding this year’s cup, here is the newest and most awesome jinx. Before the World Cup started, Nike made this amazing commercial that got me really pumped up for the tournament that seems to be having a negative effect on all the players involved. The soccer blog at Yahoo sports points out the jinx and how each of the players (and their teams) has met their sporting demise. Check out the article and enjoy the video… and go Germany!
I love Paste Magazine and one of the most fun features they have is their “list of the day” blog. The lists they provide are always entertaining and a fun way to spark conversation. A couple days ago they released their top 20 creepiest kids’ movies of all time and I was amused at how many of the movies I grew up with. There were the standard creepers on the list like “The Dark Crystal”, “Gremlins” and “Labyrinth” but I was happy/surprised to see two of my childhood favorites make the list, “The Brave Little Toaster” and “Return to OZ.” I can still remember running around my house as a kid pretending to be one of the Wheelies from OZ while holding a wheel I had taken off of my bed frame. Check out the list and see which of your favorites are on there and enjoy these clips from my two creepies.
I can’t believe that the Goonies just celebrated it’s 25th anniversary. There is a great article on Yahoo today about the cast reuniting to celebrate the film and they included this deleted scene featuring a giant squid. This movie still holds a strong place in my live because of how often my sister and I quote it to each other. I might have to break down and finally buy a blu-ray player just so I can watch the footage filmed over the reunion weekend. I have the sudden urge to go set some booby traps…
The Arcade Fire did a small show in Montreal debuting some stuff off of their upcoming album and this nice piece of video showed up on the “pop montreal” vimeo page. Too much good stuff today with this and the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference starting in about half an hour… lots to keep me busy today.
This past Sunday was my last Sunday serving a congregation that I have been a part of for almost 6 years. The students of the church and I worked hard to provide a worship experience that was unique to their interests and gave the opportunity for all their best talents. We built the service around a wonderful book by Dr. Seuss called “On Beyond Zebra” that shows us what happens when we take a step outside our comfort zone and start exploring past our current knowledge. If you want to hear the message I gave you can find it here.
As a parting gift the chruch gave me a book of poems, written in the Dr. Seuss style, from the members of the congregation. It’s a really cool memento that I will cherish as I move forward. In one of the poems written by a current student, he called my style of ministry “be-happy-bible-beard-bop”… which is pretty spot on if you ask me. It was a great day to go out with and I hope that it was just the first step in a new integration of the students into the life of the church.
