I spent a wonderful night at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday with the wife and friends seeing The Swell Season and She & Him. Glen Hansard (and his awesome beat to trash guitar) has such a laid back stage presence and really makes you feel like you have been invited into his living room for a private show… even though you are siting outside with 17,000 strangers. Their set, though short, was a great showcase of thier own blend of folk music combined with a couple cover songs that felt more like a tribute to their roots than stealing someone else’s song. The night was perfectly finished off by their cover of Springsteen’s “Drive All Night” and the traditional Irish song “The Parting Glass.” As they prepared to leave the stage, Glen had the entire crowd singing along the line “Goodnight and joy be with you all!” Here is a review from a great blog called Under the Radar and a clip from a NY show of them performing “The Parting Glass”
In other musical news, The Arcade Fire have released eight album covers for their upcomming album “The Suburbs.” This is my personal favorite of the covers becuase it remeinds me of my Grandma’s house in the Chicago suburbs. You can check out all the different images here.
